After a needed rest, select Food For Thoughters are back at work helping in the gardens. Megan, Mr. Ed, Mr. Mark and volunteer Hugo Buda were doing some cleaning up in the garden at Park Spring, starting to clean out beds which were finished, harvesting more vegetables for residents, and beginning to build a really great compost pile in the space which the kids built for it this summer. We're going to plant some cover crops soon; these will cover and hold the soil together during the winter and act as a 'green manure' source in the spring when we dig them in.
Meanwhile, at North Coventry, the plantings which the FFT youth did during late July and early August have sprouted and a good crop is going to be ready for fall harvest when the students return: carrots, kale, broccoli, lettuce, and many other delicious treats.
