Fresh, Local, Healthy

That describes most of the food sold at the Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia. And that's where we went on Friday, July 10th, to explore how city people can buy healthy local foods.

The RTM is a center of activity in Philly. Vegetables, fish, cleaning products, meat, books, coffee, ice cream--about anything you want in the food department can be bought there. And most of it comes from within 100 miles of Philly.

RTM is also a place for people to go, meet, eat lunch, listen to music, relax, read, and talk. We did all those things. But first we did our Scavenger Hunt: tracking down stalls where healthy local things were sold and answering questions about them by reading the labels and asking questions.

Then we had some interesting food ourselves. Some of us ate sushi. That's raw fish and rice and other things. What did we think? Tamara: 'Execellent, give me another piece." Darrell: 'Yech.' Others: 'HMMM, maybe. . .'

After a busy day, we all had local ice cream and headed home.
